Whenever we do an ice breaker activity, the question, “what are your hobbies” or “what do you like to do for fun” ALWAYS gets asked. And almost ALWAYS at least 2–3 people say “omg I love to travel!”
Starry eyed, I would agree, yeah I love those pictures of uninhabited, parasite infested mountains and crystal blue mineral waters. But recently, travel has been a way of escaping responsibilities than actually experiencing other cultures and seeing different parts of the world.
And I think that when others say they love to travel, they want an escape from the responsibilities of maintaining a happy and exciting life from the mundane reality of work schedules and society.
To travel is to be free from your corner of the world and to be a guest in the corner of others. To enjoy being you and not worry about the difficulties of keeping yourself alive.
