Wifi Hosts

Places to go to solve ALL your wifi needs.
So I don’t have wifi. At home that is. I have a large data plan with my family and since I don’t live at home anyway, they decided to just cut the wifi so I have to use data > hotspot if I want to use my computer.
But the thing is, my data is super unreliable, so its not like my data is *fast* or anything. Therefore, I must travel the world seeking wifi refuge. I’ve been to a couple. Here are some suggestions of the best places I’ve been to.
- The Library. This should be fairly obvious. Libraries are sacrosanct places of knowledge and therefore, since a lot of knowledge is on the internet, they provide wifi too. The wifi at my local library is very fast and stable.
- Starbucks or other cafés. While the wifi is not as fast as most libraries, cafés provide a more social atmosphere as well as nice aromas and a chance to take a break if you want to eat food. However, this is not for the adventurous or those in need of more money. Coffee shops are often restricted by size, so it can get boring if you sit there the whole day and just stare at one table or wall. Another issue is that if there are no customers, it could get quite awkward with you and the barista. Especially if you haven’t binged on a drink yet…
- Community College, College, or other school. This depends on whether or not the doors are locked, which they usually aren’t. Schools are big, providing you with space to move around and usually have food courts as well if you get hungry! Since there are so many people bustling around, it’s hard to feel out of place. Wifi here is relatively fast — on par with that of libraries. Make sure that the wifi is unlocked though, as some schools require school log ins, etc.
- Hotel. This is my absolute favorite. Not only are there people moving around, but the atmosphere is super aesthetic, there are restaurants, and people to help you with whatever you want. The wifi in hotels is usually very fast as well. One word of caution — don’t get caught. If the hotel staff notice you just coming and camping out in their lobby during the day and leaving at night, that won’t bode super well for you (You won’t get punished, probably just blacklisted). I would recommend finding a hotel + convention center, a really big hotel with places out of view of the concierge, or just a really busy hotel. If are so many people going in and out, nobody will recognize you. An additional tip is to dress nicely. If you are well dressed, people tend to assume you are traveling and not binging on their wifi. Hotels are a great place to use wifi, but just be cautious on how you use it.
Good luck to my fellow wifi parasites in finding places to mooch off of.
